Well, maybe it wasn't as cool as seeing the Stooges reunion we've all heard raves about this week in Indio, CA, but the cities of Detroit and Sacramento had a "Gathering of the Tribes" here in San Francisco tonight (4/29/03) at the Warfield (a 3000 or so capacity theater), as David Houston of Public Nuisance came with Joey D. all the way from Sacto as special guests of Detroit's current favorite son and daughter (well, sort of) team, White Stripes, who hailed David and Public Nuisance on stage and played "Small Faces" (which they told us they were going to perform on Conan O'Brien, but O'Brien wanted a seven minute song performed instead). Before the show, we met back stage in Meg and Jack's red and white "lair" that the club had done up nicely for them, heard them profess love for the Nuisance, a few records were signed, etc...Houston said he'd dub them some silent footage of the band that had recently surfaced, so a cross-continental and generational bond has definitely been struck! Cheers all, and don't dis the Stripes, they dig the Nuisance!
Here's an MP3 file of the White Stripes performing a great version of the Public Nuisance's Small Faces live at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in the Masonic Temple, Detroit, 4/16/03.
Here's another MP3 file of the White Stripes performing Small Faces in Glasgow, Scotland on April 10th.
Check back in a day or two for an MP3 of the original version by the Public Nuisance.
